10 Steps to Stress-Free Wedding Planning

Congratulations! You’re engaged. This is a wonderfully exciting time for you and your partner. Once you’ve enjoyed the rush of sharing the news with your friends and family, your thoughts will naturally turn to the planning process. There’s so much to think about, and no matter how excited you are about getting married, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Make wedding planning less stress and more fun with our top tips and handy print-out-and-keep checklist.

Make your wedding planning stress-free

1. Determine what’s most important

Before you dive into making decisions, sit down with your partner and write down some things that are important to both of you when it comes to your wedding. Perhaps it’s the dress, the food, or having a harpist playing at your reception. Focus on the things that will bring you joy rather than things you think you “should” have. By doing so, you will find yourself excited about making decisions rather than dreading them.

2. Turn wedding planning into date nights

At times, planning a wedding can feel overwhelming. There’s so much to think about! But it doesn’t have to be stressful. It can be something fun you can actively enjoy together as a couple. Make a nice dinner and open a bottle of wine before settling into planning mode. Or head out to a quiet cafe and mull over the details over a bite of lunch.

3. Take some time out

It’s easy for wedding planning to take over your life, so make sure you set aside a few days every week where you don’t do anything wedding related. Spend that time with your fiancé, friends and family, and doing the things you love. Not only will you avoid burn out, but it will make the wedding planning far more enjoyable.

4. Find wedding suppliers who understand your vision

When searching for suppliers like photographers and florists, be guided by the style of their work. Does it compliment your ideas? You don’t have to go for a cookie cutter approach, but if you like their style, you can create something truly wonderful. Focus on the things that will bring you joy rather than on things you think you “should” have.

5. Ask family and friends for help

Your friends and family want you to have the wedding day of your dreams and will want to help you make that dream a reality. Do you have a friend who is a master at calligraphy? Ask if they want to help create your place names for your wedding breakfast. Or do you have a great idea for making your own favours? Get your bridesmaids together for a day of crafts and turn it into something special you can do together.

6. Take advantage of your venue’s help and expertise

We aim to make planning your wedding as stress-free as possible. We’ll arrange an initial planning meeting to draw out the things you want from your big day and work with you on the lead-up to ensure that the whole day goes to plan. We can help with things like controlling your budget, managing schedules, sourcing suppliers.

7. Don’t sweat the small stuff

Try not to let the little things like seating arrangements or the weather on the day worry you. Perhaps you’re dreaming of an August wedding with your guests mingling outside on the riverbank, champagne in hand, with a saxophonist performing in the background. But with a little provision for plan B should the weather go awry, your day will be sure to go without a hitch. You’ll be getting married to the love of your life; little things like the rain or who’s sitting where won’t make the day any less special.

8. Set a deadline for a week or two before your big day

After months of planning, you deserve time before your big day to properly relax, pamper yourself, and enjoy your final days of being engaged. This is the time to check back with all your suppliers to make sure everything is ready, but don’t leave any big decisions or DIY projects to the last minute. Give yourself a hard stop date of at least a week or two before the wedding.

9. Enjoy the journey

From making your initial wish list to shopping for the dress to taking your engagement photos, there will be so many wonderful moments throughout your wedding planning process. Take time to soak them all in. You’re only engaged once!

10. Print out and keep this, your ultimate wedding checklist

We love it when a plan comes together! To de-stress the process, we have put together a comprehensive list of everything you need to consider on the run up to the big day. Print it out, stick it to the fridge and use it as a prompt!
